On Monday, June 24th at a Town Council Meeting, Mayor Tom Murphy announced the official process by which the two vacancies left from resigning members, Dalia Zimmerman and Lynne Skelton, will be filled.
Interested citizens of the Town of Sahuarita were required to go through a formal application process. These applications will be reviewed by Town Council, and the seats will then be filled by appointment, (which is in line with both state law and Sahuarita Town Code). The terms of the two appointed members will be until the next scheduled town election cycle, which is in 2020.
In a notice posted to the Town’s website on June 24th, the process was outlined in further detail. Those interested in applying had to complete and return an application packet. The applications were accepted until Thursday, August 1st, 2019. The Town of Sahuarita then posted a running list of candidates for the two vacancies to their website as they were received. In total, 24 citizens applied by the deadline.
Town Council will then determine which candidates to interview at a special meeting on Monday, August 12th, 2019 at 5:00 p.m., which is done in Executive Session and not open to the public. The Council will then hold a special meeting on Monday, August 19th, 2019 to interview the selected candidates and make appointments.
The two candidates selected to the seats will be sworn prior to the Town Council Meeting on Monday, August 26th, 2019, and will then take their seats at that meeting.
