The newest school of the Sahuarita Unified School District, Wrightson Ridge K-8, finished its first semester on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019. Nearly 450 K-5 aged students attended the school for the latter half of the school year, and about 200 sixth through eighth graders will join them in the fall. The 2019/2020 school year will be the first one at the new facility at its full capacity.
The 80,000 square-foot school, which is located within the Sahuarita Town Center, is possible because of the support of local voters, who passed a $25 million bond back in November of 2016. $20 million of those funds was designated for the construction of Wrightson Ridge, and the remaining $5 million is being used to replace aging portable buildings on the district’s main campus (across Sahuarita Rd.)
The new school campus contains six buildings, along with soccer, baseball, and softball fields and tennis courts. Dr. Valenzuela, Superintendent for the Sahuarita Unified School District, has this to say about the new school: “This first semester at Wrightson Ridge School has been filled with milestones of success. Together, we’ve finished constructing the beautiful new building, established some school traditions and norms, and laid a solid foundation for the future.”
