Residents of Sahuarita and surrounding areas will have easier to healthcare, when Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita officially opens for business, right in their neighborhood in November.

“I always had the worry that if one of my boys got seriously hurt, we’d have to drive all the way to Tucson,” said Heather Medina, a Sahuarita resident since the early 2000s, and mom of two teenaged boys. “Having a hospital right here is reassuring,” said Medina.

The hospital, just southeast of I-19 and Rancho Sahuarita Blvd., is a 77,000 square-foot, 18-bed facility, offering inpatient care, surgery, emergency care, laboratory services and diagnostic imaging.  The second floor will be physician offices that should open early next year, including specialists in orthopedics, OB/GYN, general surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, podiatry and primary care.

“We’ve heard from the community about the lack of providers in the Sahuarita/Green Valley area. We’re excited to be fully invested in the community, and have already added five primary care providers, a general surgeon and a podiatrist this year. These new providers will join the two gastroenterologists, two cardiologists and orthopedic surgeon who are already here, seeing patients,” said Kevin Stockton Regional President and Market CEO of Northwest Healthcare.

Northwest Healthcare first came to Sahuarita in 2010, with an urgent-care facility and outpatient imaging and laboratory services, and is now expanding to accommodate growth in the area.  Sun Corridor Inc., which helped Northwest Healthcare with its expansion plans, estimates the new Sahuarita hospital will have a regional economic impact of $165 million over the next five years.

“I’m very excited about the hospital coming, because it will bring more daytime traffic to the area.  That means more people will come to nearby restaurants and businesses,” Medina said.  “It’s also bringing a lot of new jobs to the area, as well.”

The facility will employ about 100, including nurses, physicians and support staff workers. “We are so excited to open our doors to serve the community,” said Kate Schneider, Chief Administrative Officer of Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita. “We look forward to being an integral part of Sahuarita for many years to come.”
